Square Mile awards A rating to a trio of funds

Square Mile Investment Consulting & Research today confirms it has added three funds from Fulcrum Asset Management and BMO Global Asset Management to its Academy of Funds. The TM Fulcrum Diversified Core Absolute Return, the F&C European Small Cap ex UK and the F&C European Small Cap funds have all achieved A ratings.

The Academy of Funds is a dedicated section within Square Mile's website, where advisers can access analysis on all recommended funds. Each fund carries a rating - A, AA, AAA, R or P+ - as a mark of quality and a reflection of the level of conviction Square Mile's team of analysts has in a fund's ability to deliver on expectations.

Commenting on the TM Fulcrum Diversified Core Absolute Return fund, Amaya Assan, Senior Investment Research Analyst at Square Mile, said:

"We are pleased to introduce the TM Fulcrum Diversified Core Absolute Return fund to Square Mile's Academy of Funds with an A rating. Whilst this is a complex strategy, it has a clear objective of delivering long-term absolute returns with lower volatility than equity markets. The management team look to achieve this in an incremental manner through a highly diversified portfolio of risk-adjusted positions across equities, fixed income, currencies, commodities and alternative investments.

There appears to be a growing investor appetite for strategies such as these, and given the impressive credentials of the investment team backing this strategy, we feel that this is a fund that investors may wish to consider."

On the BMO funds, Amaya continued:

"Sam Cosh, who manages the F&C European Small Cap ex UK and the F&C European Small Cap funds, joined BMO in 2010 taking charge of the European small cap products soon after he arrived. Both funds are managed along identical lines in terms of philosophy and process, which is to identify attractively valued, quality companies that can generate high and sustainable returns on capital on an enduring basis.

The F&C European Small Cap ex UK fund was launched in March 2015 but Mr Cosh has been running the European Assets Trust since 2010, which is also an ex UK mandate. Since taking charge of the F&C European Small Cap fund in 2010, which is a pan European mandate, Mr Cosh has successfully turned performance around whilst navigating an array of market conditions.  He has stayed the course as a long-term investor, focusing on business dynamics and this consistency, is an attractive feature to have in a fund manager."
