Square Mile launches range of six passive model portfolios

10 Jul, 2023 | Return|

Square Mile Investment Services Ltd (Square Mile) has launched the Square Mile Passive Portfolios, a range of six low-cost investment solutions to match a spectrum of risk/return profiles from ‘Defensive’ to ‘Speculative’. These portfolios combine the asset allocation expertise and robust funds analysis of Square Mile’s Investment Management and Research & Consulting teams in an investment proposition with an OCF of 0.25%.

Portfolio construction will draw on the strategic asset allocation that Square Mile’s Investment Management team applies to its broader range of bespoke portfolio solutions with tactical tilts to take advantage of shorter-term opportunities. Each portfolio will hold around 20 funds across UK government and corporate debt, international fixed income, global high yield and UK and international equities. They will invest in passive strategies offered by leading asset management houses and all portfolio holdings will be rated Recommended* by Square Mile’s 21-strong Research & Consulting team.

The Square Mile Passive Portfolios range breaks down as follows:

Defensive

25% - 40% equity exposure

Cautious

40% - 55% equity exposure

Balanced

53% - 68% equity exposure

Growth

65% - 80% equity exposure

Adventurous

78% - 93% equity exposure

Speculative

90% - 98% equity exposure

The Square Mile Passive Portfolios will be listed on Aviva and Transact, but Square Mile will also make them available on advisers’ preferred platforms.

Scott Dakers, Square Mile Business Development Director, said, “With the introduction of Consumer Duty, advisers face the decision of opting for manufacturer, co-manufacturer or distributor status. For many, distributor status is very appealing as, although they forfeit any involvement in the design and implementation of investment portfolios, they face much less onerous regulatory oversight. We therefore believe this range of Square Mile branded and managed passive model portfolios will be a compelling proposition those advisers assuming distributor status following the implementation of Consumer Duty.

“The Square Mile Passive Portfolios capture the expertise of our investment team and the market-leading research of our fund analysts within highly cost-competitive investment solution. They also complement the bespoke portfolio services we provide to advisers as an option for clients for whom a cost-constrained model portfolio is more appropriate, enabling them to meet the needs of a wider spectrum of investors.”
